Let me tell you a story:
A very successful businessman had a meeting with his new son-in-law.
“I love my daughter, and now I welcome you into the family,” said the man. “To show you how much we care for you, I’m making you a 50-50 partner in my business. All you have to do is go to the factory every day and learn the operations.”
The son-in-law interrupted, “I hate factories. I can’t stand the noise.”
“I see,” replied the father-in-law. “Well, then you’ll work in the office and take charge of some of the operations.”
“I hate office work,” said the son-in-law. “I can’t stand being stuck behind a desk all day.”
“Wait a minute,” said the father-in-law. “I just make you half-owner of a moneymaking organization, but you don’t like factories and won’t work in a office. What am I going to do with you?”
“Easy,” said the young man. “Buy me out.”
Lol! Why do I have the feeling that the son-in-law didn’t make out the way he’d hoped?
Gratitude is a daily decision – sometimes an hourly decision. If you’re not in the habit of focusing on the richness in your life, it’s well worth realigning your energy to the positive. There are tangible benefits!
- Bring out the best in others. When you open your eyes and see the magnificent wonders of the world around you, your attitude is contagious. When you express your gratitude – appreciation — others feed on that energy and reflect it.
- Attract appreciation. The more you play detective, looking for joyful evidence to be grateful for, the more those things will appear in your life. We’ll talk about that more in the upcoming blog, Attitude of Gratitude: Can Your Gratitude Engage the Law of Attraction?
- Appreciation heals. If bitterness and regret is a festering infection, rotting the joy out of your soul (and they are!), gratitude is the food of spiritual wellness, bringing light and fullness and healing.
- An attitude of gratitude can transform negative situations into productive, joyful exchanges of information and caring. Can you think of a time when someone confronted you angrily? Did you choose to strike back, escalating the situation? Or did you look past the aggression to the pain behind it, and begin use appreciation as a salve?
A cute example of that last one springs to mind, but if you’ve ever see the first Night at the Museum movie, you’ll remember how Attilla the Hun and his men attacked Ben Stiller’s character over and over. Ben yelled, he ran, he even tried a few magic tricks. But eventually he reached a stage where he appreciated his new job and the strange and wonderful opportunities it brought. Feeling the moment, he finally approached Atilla and looked past the aggression to the “little baby Atilla” that lurked within: “Listen, I get it. Ripping for you – you want to rip things, okay? And I think maybe that’s because somebody ripped you a long time ago . . . in here.”
Atilla and his men were moved to Hunly tears, and they became his allies in his struggle to master his job as night watchman.
When you understand the tangible, measurable benefits of injecting gratitude into your worldview, it’ll be easier to change any type of negative daily habits into an attitude of gratitude.
Feel the energy and enjoy the financial freedom that comes from honing your attitude of gratitude can transform your life into a high-energy celebration and your business into a 6 or more figure success.
