Achieving Success Through Clear Client Boundaries: Do You Want Kramer in Your Apartment?

In my last blog, I talked about The Client We All Dread — the one who doesn’t understand or respect boundaries. The Seinfeld Show video above is a great example of what happens when boundaries aren’t established early. Kramer clearly violated Seinfeld’s boundaries by failing to put that glass on the coaster!
Now let’s talk about how you can establish boundaries immediately, achieving success as you save yourself the energy drain of working them out as you go along.
• If you’ve taken the time to really know identify your business systems, you have a sense of exactly what you can offer. Make a list of these. Now, do you see everything that isn’t on the list? Those are the things you don’t offer.
• When you initially meet with your client, take the time to really spell out what you can offer, and what you expect of the client.
• Ask your client for permission to point out when she’s resisting change. After all, the whole point of obtaining your services is to effect positive change.
• To successfully work with anyone, you need to have an authentic meeting of the minds. Take the time to make sure that you both are fully on the same page with the details of your collaboration.
I would never recommend being legalistic or rule-based. After all, if you’re in a heart-based business, you must not turn your back on your intuition or your compassion. But by establishing boundaries, you protect your freedom to align energetically with the universe and your purpose. Your client will respond to your expectation with instinctive respect and value your service more highly.
