Small Business Success: Activate The Healing And Success Of Stories

Psychologist Dr. Donald Moine, president of the Association for Human Achievement teaches corporate executives that the easiest way to get people to accept a new idea is to link it to an idea or concept they already understand.
Some examples would be:
• Nike’s use of familiar sports figures, combined with the tagline, “Just do it!”
• Beer commercials which capture the “casual night out” scene with lighthearted male humor
• “The Crying Indian” of the Keep America Beautiful Campaign, using our perception that Native Americans are uniquely connected to the land
As we discussed in an earlier blog in this series, large corporations have the advantage of million dollar advertising budgets and slick, seasoned execs who know how to “package” and “brand” a product. If you are worried about bringing in clients and finding small business success and keeping your healing, coaching, or heart-based business afloat, that may even seem like a good thing.
Open your hand.
No, I mean it. Look down at your hand and watch as you peel your fingers back one by one, so that your palm is up and exposed to the light and air. Now release that old way of thinking. You don’t need it.
Now, while your hand is still open and able to receive, accept the gifts of truth and abundance from the universe. You don’t have to grasp for clients or money or anything else. Just keep your hand open so that you can give freely, and what you need will come to you.
What does this mean?
• Open your hand and tell your story. Share your experience so that your prospective client knows you, understands your purpose and gifts, and sees your spirit of generosity.
• Open your hand and receive your prospect’s story. Don’t just listen. Internalize.
• Open your heart to connect at a fundamental level, delivering your gifts to your client’s needs. Money becomes secondary at this point – to both of you. The important work has been completed, and the transfer of resources is a mere necessary formality.
If you have trouble with this process, look inward and determine whether you’ve got suppressed feelings about the story you’re trying to tell. If so, your instincts may be clamping down, preventing you from “unloading” at an inappropriate time. In this case, take the time to discharge the feelings by confiding your story in a trusted friend, journaling it, or releasing the feelings in meditation. Once you do this, you’ll be able to share your story of overcoming your barriers in an energetical way that will inspire your client to join you on the path toward small business success.
